C.H.O.W. Wagon

Combating Hunger on Wheels

In Prince William County, thousands of children and families face the daily reality of food insecurity. During the summer months and periods of economic strain, the challenge intensifies — impacting entire households, not just individuals.

The C.H.O.W. Wagon (Combating Hunger on Wheels) was created to respond with urgency, dignity, and compassion.

We bring nutritious food directly into neighborhoods and schools, ensuring children can focus on learning and families can focus on building stability. Hunger affects more than physical health — it influences academic performance, emotional well-being, and long-term opportunity. When families lack consistent access to healthy meals, the ripple effects are felt throughout the community.

Through mobile distribution and community partnerships, the C.H.O.W. Wagon removes barriers to access and provides food that is culturally appropriate, usable, and nourishing. More than a distribution program, it is a commitment to strengthening families, restoring dignity, and advancing food security across Prince William County.

School Food Pantries

Feeding Students. Strengthening Families. Transforming Schools.

Hunger should never be a barrier to education.

Yet thousands of students in Prince William County experience food insecurity — arriving at school distracted by hunger and leaving uncertain about their next meal. When children lack consistent access to nutritious food, the impact extends beyond the classroom, affecting their health, emotional well-being, academic performance, and long-term opportunity.

The Prince William County Community Foundation's School Food Pantry initiative was created to meet this challenge directly where it occurs — inside our schools.

By embedding fully stocked food pantries within Prince William County Public Schools, we provide discreet, reliable access to nutritious groceries for students and their families. This school-based model removes transportation barriers, reduces stigma, and ensures support is accessible in a trusted environment.

But our vision extends beyond access.

We are building a sustainable, scalable network of school pantries that strengthens families year-round and integrates with broader health, wellness, and community support systems. Through strategic partnerships, consistent food sourcing, and long-term infrastructure planning, we are working toward a future where no student in Prince William County faces hunger as an obstacle to success.

This is more than a program — it is a commitment to educational equity and family stability.
